Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
The best way to 'wash' a pure wool proper kilt is to hang it under a cold shower for twenty minutes then drip dry. No water marks and the weight of the water pulls the pleats back in. Try a curtain, it could work! (I learned that when I with the Black Watch in Berlin.....)

Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
I will take your advice on board, and watch to see if I get any improvement with them hanging first, as it took me about an hour to thread them all on to string and tension everything.
More bespoke sewing today. Making each of us some sun visor storage. They will wrap around the sun visor and Velcro will give them a smooth fit. I did mine today...CD storage/mirror/folding brush/pen holder. Hubby only wants mirror/Spectacle holder/Sunglasses Holder so more racking of the brain to come as it will be different to mine.

Happier with our second quote. Further away of course and I will need to follow hubby in the car for the near 3 hour round trip to bring him home when we drop it off next Friday. They need the van for a week. It will be good to get the major things done...then we can finish off our own work.

How annoying that the first guys messed you around and wasted so much time Maz. Exciting now it's all happening.

Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
Thank heavens the bad weather seems to be clearing for the big drive on Friday. I was beginning to despair we would be washed away in storm waters...my dear little car being only knee high to a grasshopper.
Looking forward to getting the work done on the van though.
Just have to hope weather stays ok for the return journey to collect the van.

Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
Only if you dream about me, Stanley. By the time you are up and logged on, I hope we will be back home! Leaving at "sparrows" tomorrow morning.
Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
Yep...back home safely...though the thick fog and a very aggressive tandem truck driver gave me some minor grief...and the windscreen and side mirrors iced over in the thick fog too. I wouldn't normally have chosen to drive in those conditions, but I expect you lot are used to it. At least it didn't rain!
Hopefully we pick it up next Friday...

Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
Here we go! Rang to work out a time to pick up the van tomorrow to be told "Sorry...we haven't started your work yet...it's going to be another week!"
Febby went a startling shade of purple whilst on the phone (he is a smidge cross).

Hope you're not posting the same again next week. Good luck. You should use that ruse to pay them a week late.

Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
Oh that's a bummer...
Does that mean I don't have to polish my taps and dust my mantle piece ( if you're not coming next weekend) ?

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.
Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
Still coming next weekend, Cazza.
Get polishing! Can't recall you having a mantelpiece gal...
( we may have to collect van on Friday and return to town Saturday as planned...our bed is booked for the night at son's)

Oh no! Have faith Maz. Stay calm and expect a magnificent job even if it is a week longer than expected.Marilyn wrote:Here we go! Rang to work out a time to pick up the van tomorrow to be told "Sorry...we haven't started your work yet...it's going to be another week!"

Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
Hee hee...it's not pretty.
He was more upset that we had paid a substantial up front payment ( they needed it in good faith to order the fridge and awning and air con etc), and we had been booked in with a special request to present the van by 08.30am on that morning of arctic weather. To hear they had not started a week later made him cross. ( I believe the bulk of their work is insurance claims and they push other jobs back). But it was a bit much when they hinted they could be charging us "storage fees" for having the van on site! They had better not DARE do that! I would find that highly offensive and slightly illegal..and I'm pretty sure Febby will turn purple again.

You might have to charge them for depriving you of the use of your van!

Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
Nurse! Febby has turned purple again!
He phoned them today and they couldn't tell us how our van was going, or when it may be ready (!) but the person would check progress and phone us back. Three hours later we hadn't heard anything so Febby rang again to be told "van wouldn't be ready this week".
Febby pointed out that their customer service was deplorable...and he could only hope their work was better than his customer experience!

Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
Turning purple sounds very restrained under the circumstances Maz! Colin would have stormed off to reclaim it through hell or high water (dragging me with him of course). That's assuming the top of his head hadn't blown off after the first phone call.
Re: Getting on...(camper van tales)
I guess `word of mouth recommendation' will take on a different meaning when you tell people about them!
