Re: Rolls Royce Drawing Office Memories 1950-1980

Having never worked at Rolls Royce I'm unfamiliar with the different departments. There may well have been several different drawing offices. I'm pretty sure that George was chief draughtsman of his particular department and was head hunted for the newly opening Colne branch of Mal Tool on Cotton Tr...

Re: Rolls Royce Drawing Office Memories 1950-1980

I worked with George Brass when I was at Mal Tool. I believe he was in the drawing office at RR. He hailed from Clitheroe. A really nice bloke, and extremely clever. He was also an avid fell runner. I left Mal Tool in 1995 and had a long chat with him just before my departure. Sadly he died shortly ...

Nice old pic of Thornton Quarry. many thanks. We used to go there to fish/camp etc as kids.

If anyone could put me onto any additional information about the place, past and present, I'd be very grateful.

Re: SO, WHAT IS A CAT?

I fed my 3 boys at 5-30am this morning then let them out. My 5.45am cup of tea was interrupted by the sound of wailing. A check outside revealed my 3 brave lads all huddled together under the chairs on the patio, whimpering and wailing. A quick check with the torch revealed another cat, small tortoi...

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS

We had an old range when I lived in Bradford. Nothing near as fancy as that one but had the same functions. Mum used to get 5 bags of coal delivered for 10 bob, methinks. This was dumped into the back yard then Dad shoveled it down the cellar steps. The Clean Air Act had just kicked in so it couldn'...

A clashing gate at the entrance to the front gardens of Wellhouse Square. Note the re-use of old stones and remember that when the Square was built by Bracewell for his workers at Wellhouse Mill it was surrounded by fields and stray animals had to be kept out. The cheap seats

While at Barlick Modern in the 1960's I used to go to the Majestic, along with school mates, to see the horror B films. You were supposed to be 16 to get in but the rule was pretty relaxed. They needed "bums on seats" methinks. Anyroad, I've been racking my brains trying to remember what w...

Milk Bar

An after dinner natter about the old days led to my wife mentioning a Milk Bar that she used to go to in Nelson. This reminded me of a similar institution (I think) that I used to go to in the late '60's/early'70's which was situated at the junction of Skipton Rd and St James Rd. http://imageshack.u...
